Alito believes in a "unitary executive" not constrained by checks and balances. You may think those checks and balances are protected by the constitution, but it turns out the constitution only says what the Supreme Court says it does. Yes! Putting that one year of Law School to use!

This was in February 2003. I had just returned to the Crimson for another editorial run and wanted to make a broad statement about where I saw politics going during the semester. A month later we invaded Iraq and have been at war ever since.

Note: I'm not advocating drugs. I can think of plenty of reasons to regulate drug use (and ways to do so that would be preferable to our "War on drugs"). But the spate of anti-marijuana commercials at that time seemed particularly ridiculous. The described dangers included driving under the influence (how many times was this followed by a beer commercial?), playing around with a loaded gun (probably left out by a sober NRA fanatic), and funding terrorism. The possibility of lung cancer would be even more convincing, and I thought that one up by myself.
